Information about York
The city of York is in northern Yorkshire, in England. The city is the meeting place of the Ouse and Foss rivers. York's history goes back over 2,000 years. It played an important role in England's history over that time, and was even the seat of the Roman Empire for a two year period. Among the cities main attractions is York Castle Museum, which has exhibits from 16th century life, including clothing, weapons, tools, machines, and even information of life in the jails of the day. The museum opened its doors to the public in 1938 and gets its name from York Castle, which was completed in 1068. We also recommend visiting York Minster, the biggest Gothic cathedral in northern Europe, and the Yorkshire Museum, which has exhibits covering all of the region's history. Discover the wonderful city of York and unravel its time honoured mysteries.
