Information about Scottish Islands and Outer Hebrides

Scottish Islands and Outer Hebrides. Scotland has 787 islands, of which little more than 100 are inhabited. To the west are the Inner and Outer Hebrides; while to the north are the Orkneys and Shetland Islands. Among the Inner Hebrides are Skye, Mull, Islay, Jura and Staffa. These are easily reached and strikingly beautiful, with grottoes and other beautiful places with interesting wildlife. Mull is the most popular. As for the Outer Hebrides, the best are Lewis, Harris, Berneray, North Uist, South Uist and St. Kilda. This wild environment, including vast beaches set in a tempestuous sea, is home to communities that are reluctant to change their beliefs and way of life. The main town is Stornoway, an important fishing port on the island of Lewis, which has numerous lakes, crofts and megalithic monuments. The Orkneys and Shetland Islands are full of beauty and mystery. They have archaeological sites that are heaven on earth to archaeologists and historians, as well as a wide range of sea birds. Visit the cathedral, the Kirkwall Museum and the Neolithic sites of Sandwick and Stromness. You should also visit the museum, the Stenness and South Ronaldsay burial site, Lambholm Chapel and the Old Man of Hoy Cliffs. Discover the Scottish Islands and Outer Hebrides.
