        General review

Refurbished rooms OK UK 3* standard. "Standard" rooms on a par with homeless shelter. Shabby, grubby, dangerous, completely unacceptable. Overpriced (and I speak from many years of experience of Sofia and its hotels). Staff off-hand. Building itself a concrete monstrosity of a tower block, in desperate need of tlc and lots of £. Trip totally spoilt by disappointing rooms until upgraded at own expense! Would never recommend to anyone unless they clearly understood that the rooms are split between acceptable and hovel! The pictures on website when we booked showed a refurbished room, not what we apparently "booked" ie. a standard room (otherwise known as unrefurbished). Location is also not very good despite being described as being in a "Park" - also Metro line to city centre doesnt actually appear to be finished yet and tram service is only OK if the man in the kiosk happens to choose to work that day so you can buy a ticket. Overall, incredibly disappointed and disillusioned - this hotel is stuck firmly in the concrete, communist past. Fortunately, cheap alcohol went some to numbing the pain.
