Caracas, in the north of the country, is both the capital and biggest city in Venezuela. Caracas is over a valley in the Coastal Mountain Range. Not far away is El Ávila National Park, which is between the city and the Caribbean Sea, only 15 km from Caracas.
The park works to preserve a mountainous area rich in plant and animal life. Many varieties and species live in this alpine habitat, including jaguars, pumas, foxes and many more. It is a very popular place among both residents and visitors to the area, with lots of walking paths and a cable car that goes up Cerro Ávila.
Caracas is also rich in cultural life, with the excellent Sofia Imber Museum of Modern Art ranking as one of the best of its kind in Latin America. The little ones will be spoilt for things to do at the marvellous Children’s Museum.
