Zion National Park is located near Springdale, in the US state of Utah.
It has a large area of 593 square kms (229 square miles) of natural beauty. Its main attraction is Zion Canyon, which is 24 kms long and 800 meters deep; it is a natural wonder that was formed by the Virgin River. Giant rock formations called the Grand Staircase make up the landscape and the floor of the park. These are layers of sedimentary rock that are 150 millions years old. These layers can have different appearances and colours, and they give Zion National Park a great variety of cliffs, hills and outcrops. The place's ecosystems vary from desert to forest, making it home to a range of different natural species.
It is possible to see coyotes, grey foxes, deer, royal eagles and peregrine falcons, as well as 19 species of bat. Other attractions in the park include the Great White Throne, the Virgin River and the Kolob Arch. It is possible to sleep at Zion Lodge since there are a number of camping areas here. Zion National Park is a great place for walking and horseriding.
