The US city of Santa Fe is located in the southwest of the country and it is the state capital of New Mexico.
The distinctive cityscape has many charming adobe buildings with colourful doors and windows. There are also a number of old churches, some of which date back centuries (the city was founded in 1609).
We recommend a visit to the Palace of the Governors, the oldest civil building in Santa Fe, which was built in 1610 by the Spanish. It currently houses a number of different exhibitions about the important Spanish legacy, as well as the Mexican, Indian and Anglo-Saxon heritage of the city.
The city has a wide range of museums and art galleries, and was named a City of Folk Art by UNESCO in 2005.
Santa Fe is situated in a beautiful valley next to the Rio Grande, at the foot of the Rocky Mountains. In August it is possible to visit the Santa Fe Indian Market, where you can buy original art objects by more than 1000 Indian artists from all over the country.
