Pittsburgh is located in the state of Pennsylvania, United States. The city is situated on the confluence of the Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers.
Pittsburgh is a major metropolitan area that combines the modernism of its many skyscrapers with old buildings such as its pre-revolutionary fortifications. The oldest of these is the Fort Pitt Blockhouse, which dates back to 1764.
Pittsburgh can be divided into the central area, called the Golden Triangle, and four main areas around this. The Golden Triangle has a number of cultural attractions, such as opera houses and theatres. Pittsburgh has many places of interest, including the National Aviary, the largest in the country; and the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens complex, with its greenhouse in impressive Victorian style.
Pittsburgh has many walks and parks to enjoy some time outdoors. Its three rivers are ideal for activities such as sailing, waterskiing, fishing or kayaking. For sports lovers, Pittsburgh is an important American football city, it has Major League baseball, National Hockey League ice hockey and excellent basketball teams.
