Information about Hawaii - The Big Island
The Island of Hawaii, known as the Big Island, is the largest in the Hawaiian Archipelago. Its capital is Hilo, a city surrounded by tropical forest.
The island has a large climatic and geographical diversity since it includes woods, desert areas and snowy peaks like the Mauna Kea. This diversity can be generally classified into two areas: the western part (kona) is the most arid, while the eastern part (Hilo) is tropical.
The volcanoes that formed the island and its natural wealth are one of the most popular tourist attractions. The Hawaii Volcanoes National Park includes different active volcanoes and it is a must for visitors. Here you can see the Kilauea, one of the world's most active volcanoes and one which has been experiencing continuous eruptions for more than 2 decades now. The lava of this volcano reaches the ocean, creating unique vapour clouds that take on the orange colour of the lava. This phenomenon is the most interesting attraction for visitors and it is one of the island's highlights. You will also see its black sand beaches, the result of the fragmentation of volcanic rock.
Experiencing such a special destination as Hawaii is truly unique. Come and enjoy it!
