Information about Windermere
Windermere is in the wonderful Lakes District, in north-west England. It is surrounded by mountains and some exceptional landscapes, making it a popular destination for lovers of climbing, hiking and water sports like canoeing, fishing, swimming and sailing. A boat ride in the lakes provides one with a different perspective of this beautiful country.
Windermere Lake is the biggest in Great Britain. It extends from Newby Bridge almost as far as Ambleside and is framed by steep and wooded hills. Don’t miss your chance to go fishing for mountain trout, a very rare type.
You should also visit the Holehird Gardens, Blackwell Garden, Stagshaw Garden, the Windermere Horse Riding Centre, its golf course, the Watermill Brewing Co and interesting museums, like the Steam Boat Museum. Don’t forget to check out the Aquarium and Brockhole, which has layered gardens next to the lake. Orrest Head is a historic pedestrian area that provides panoramic views. There is nothing more charming than a steam train ride along the southern edge of the lake, possibly ending in a boat or ferry trip.
The range of accommodation has something for visitors of all tastes and budgets, including B & Bs, guest houses and luxury hotels. There are some wonderful pubs and inns where you can try the local beer.
Come to Windermere for a really relaxing holiday.
