Scottish Borders and Dumfries are two counties that border each other in the south of Scotland.
The landscape in this part of the country is remarkable for its many hills and the constant presence of the Tweed river, which crosses the Scottish Borders from west to east. This Banks of this river are an excellent place to do a bit of fishing and enjoy other outdoor activities. Dumfries is on the Banks of another pretty river, the Nith, one of the longest in the country.
One of Scotland’s greatest poets, Robert Burns, lived here. His two houses are very popular places to visit. The centre that bears his name is in an old watermill that goes back to the 18th century.
Over that there is an old windmill that houses the Dumfries Museum and the Camera Obscura Observatory. There are many charming traditional villages in the Scottish Borders, as well as museums, castles and abbeys that encapsulate the region’s history and cultural heritage.
