Gloucester is a town in south-west England, close to the Welsh border. This is a mountainous region that takes in the Cotswolds, Dean Forest and the Malvern Hills.
The city is remarkable for the large quantity of churches it possesses. While it is true that there are many new and renovated buildings in town, it is also worth pointing out that a lot of old buildings have retained their original form, as is the case of the museum and academy of modern art and science, the county jail and Whitefield Church. Close to St. Mary’s Church you can still see some ruins of two monasteries and the old town walls.
One of its main attractions is the Abbey of St. Peter, which houses the tomb of King Henry II- Some scenes for the recent Harry Potter movie were filmed there.
If you are looking for a place with plenty of history, good architecture and lots of culture, Gloucester is the place for you.
