Basingstoke is a town in the northeast of Hampshire in England. Located in a valley at the source of the River Loddon, it is part of the district of Basingstoke and Deane.
The town has a major shopping centre: Festival Place, which has a restaurant, a cafeteria and various places for spending your leisure time.
One of the area's main attractions is Basingstoke Canal, ideal for walking, riding a bike or taking a boat trip. Here there is some beautiful woodland to enjoy and there are a number of traditional English pubs along the route. For those who like to fish, the canal has a wide variety of species.
There are possibilities for history enthusiasts too: the extensive ruins of Basing House, an interesting Tudor property that takes the visitor back to the 16th and 17th centuries. The setting, by the river, is quite lovely and very atmospheric.
Another important attraction is Hampshire's Living History Museum, an interesting place where scenes from the past come to life.
