Edinburgh is one of the most important cities in Scotland and is the capital of the country.
It is located on the banks of the Firth of Forth. The Old and New Town zones of the city were awarded UNESCO World Heritage status in 1995. Edinburgh receives the second largest number of tourists in the UK after London.
The city has a great many places to visit, including Edinburgh Castle, which is the most popular of Scottish Castles. Here you can see the Scottish crown jewels and other interesting historical relics. The Scotch Whisky Museum has information about how this famous drink is made, and you can try it too! Another important place to see is the National Gallery of Scotland, which houses a fine collection of Scottish and European art. Other places well worth visiting include the Museum of Scotland; Edinburgh Zoo, which has hundreds of animal species and is undoubtedly one of Britain's largest zoos; the very interesting Royal Botanic Garden; and Scotland's National Aquarium, near Edinburgh, which houses the world's largest underwater tunnel. Don't miss it!
Edinburgh has a bit of everything, why don't you come and visit?

Our travellers’ opinions on Edinburgh

Edinburgh - the UK's real capital
by AlexLondon usually gets all the attention when people talk about the best places to go in the UK. But visit Edinburgh and you’ll find an altogether nicer city, that’s chock full of ancient and historic buildings, friendlier people, and is altogether easier to navigate. Edinburgh’s biggest draw apart from the magnificent castle and old town is the way it constantly draws on its’ heritage. You can’t escape the whiskey tasting, the wall-to-wall kilt shops, and enough woolly garments leave the sheep surrounding the city well and truly fleeced. The Fringe Festival and Hogmanay are the liveliest times to visit, but regardless of the time of year to go, Edinburgh remains one of the best places in the UK to enjoy a wild night out. It’s also where, after a few whiskies, visiting girl groups are brave enough to find out what men really do wear under their kilts

The atmosphere in the city is amazing. With live concerts staged featuring some of the world’s best bands, there’s street theatre, stand-up comedy, dancing and fireworks over the castle, book your wristbands early and be part of the world’s best New Year’s Party
