Ayrshire is a county in southwest Scotland. Its capital is Ayr, but its most important city is Kilmarnock, while Troon is an important coastal city.
The landscape is graced by rolling hills and leafy valleys. There are also some good shopping centres and spectacular golf clubs in the area, with over forty medieval castles, one of the most spectacular of which is the 13th century Turnberry Castle.
The Burns Heritage Trail runs through all of the sights identified with the celebrated poet Robert Burns. The Clyde coast will surprise you with its castles and its inventors’ museum.
