The city of Aberdeen is home to the largest harbour in north-eastern Scotland.
It is the transport hub of the North Sea oil industry. The city is nicknamed the Granite City, in reference to the abundance of this material in the construction of buildings.
You can view the three cathedrals, St Machar's being the oldest, the King´s College, Provost Ross´s House, and many more monuments of historical interest. Aberdeen is full of marvellous gardens.
When you travel through the Royal Deeside region or the river Dee valley, which is surrounded by birchwood forests, you will witness part of the history of Aberdeen. Take the castle route and visit some of the eleven that exist in the area, including Balmoral, the Queen's summer residence; all have magnificent architecture.
Towards the north, in the Grampian Mountains, is the Malt Whiskey route, where you can taste the traditional product of Scotland at the respective distilleries.
As for the food; the beef, lamb, venison, partridge and pheasant are all excellent, but the fish specialties, especially those of the smoked variety, are the most traditional.
Come to Aberdeen and enjoy all its charms.
