Mae Hong Son is a city situated in north-eastern Thailand, and is the capital of Mae Hong Son province. It is found along the banks of the river Pai.
The city is hidden in the high mountains among wooded slopes; it extends as far as the Burmese border. Mae Hong Son is known for its enchanting scenery and its rich culture. The historical inhabitants of the city are commonly known as Shan and live in the hills, in remote villages located on the summits, where lifestyles have changed very little in hundreds of years.
