The Cultural Triangle, Sri Lanka. In the south of the island of Sri Lanka – formerly known as Ceylon – southeast of India, is the Cultural Triangle, which includes the historical landmarks of Sigiriya, Anradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Kandy.
Set in the middle of the jungle, we recommend visiting its palaces; temples, gardens, ponds and exotic sacred places that will make you feel that you are in a mythical world.
When in Polonnaruwa we recommend visiting the temples of Lankatilaka, Tivanka and Vatadage, which will surprise you with its giant book of Gal Pota and the four Buddhas of Gal Vihara.
On a 200-metre high rock in the jungle is Sigiriya, with its Palace of King Dhayourena reached by a steep staircase. You will see 5th century frescoes in the rocks.
To the south and up the hills is Kandy, with its bustling streets and its shops full of all kinds of goods. Next to the artificial lake is the Temple of Dalada Maligawa, which houses the famous holy tooth of the Buddha.
Visit the golden temple of Dambulla, and the numerous museums of Sri Lanka’s Cultural Triangle. You will have the option of going on a wildlife tour. Meanwhile the facilities and accommodation are what you would expect of a first-class international holiday destination.
