Tenerife is the largest of Spain’s Canary Islands, a place of untamed nature that is ideal for anyone looking for a good time. It is situated in the Atlantic Ocean, close to the African coast.
The capital of the island is Santa Cruz de Tenerife, on the eastern point. The south side of the island is the area most popular with young people. This region has a pleasant climate and a summer that appears to last all year. Puerto de La Cruz is the town that attracts the highest number of families. The northern part has the biggest green spaces and Spanish culture can be experienced there in all its splendour.
Towards the centre of the island you can find an important volcano called El Teide, one of the highest in the country. Many tours are carried out to visit it and see its crater. Travelling the routes is also a spectacle worth enjoying, due to the marvellous landscapes and mountains. There are various recreational parks such as the Loro Parque Zoo (Parrot Zoo Park), an extensive animal welfare foundation. There is also the Parque de la Jungla, with its beautiful bird sanctuary. Tenerife has everything you need to experience a great holiday!

Volcano climbing, Tenerife
by AlexIt’s official. Tenerife is hot! Get out of the resorts for a day and take a trip up to the El Teide Volcano. This is officially Spain’s hottest and highest dormant volcano which stands at over 3,500 metres. The peak is known as the "Sugar Loaf” from its distinctive white cone. There’s a cable car which runs almost to the top. Check out the views – they’re breathtaking. Serious hikers can get to the peak by requesting a special permit from the national park office in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Just take along a copy of your passport

Tenerife's Terrific food
by AlexEating like a Canary Islander, doesn’t mean eating like a bird in Tenerife. Aside from all the international restaurants on offer (you can literally eat your way around the world here, from Japan to Lebanon and to Argentina, Morocco and of course England), don’t leave Tenerife without sampling the local cuisine. Fish and seafood are big favourites here. Head to the fishing villages of Los Abrigos or La Caleta for some of the best restaurants on the island. And as for other local food, you’ll find “mojo” served with just about everything. Mojo is a dressing made from oil, vinegar, garlic, spices and salt, comes in various spiceyness and is poured onto virtually everything, from meat, potatoes and fish. One of my favourite dishes is puchero canario which is a local stew and contains seasonal veg, such as pumpkin, yam, pear, sweet potato, potato, chickpeas and various pulses. Yum
