Soria is the capital of the province of the same name. It is in the Spanish Autonomous Community of Castilla y León.

Nestling on the banks of the Duero, Soria is famous for its churches and its rich historical heritage. Among the best landmarks are the Concatedral de San Pedro and its cloister, built in the plateresco style. It is considered a jewel of Castillian Romanesque architecture. Another example of this style are the magnificent Arches of San Juan de Duero, which are the remains of a monastery that stood there in the 12th century. There are plenty of examples of other architectural styles in Soria, such as the hermitages of San Saturio, Nuestra Sra. del Mirón, Nuestra Sra. de la Soledad, and convents like Nuestra Sra. del Carmen or Nuestra Sra. de la Merced. The Plaza Mayor de Soria (main square) is one of the city’s most popular. It is home to some lovely historical buildings and good shops. The Museo Numantino is well worth a visit. It is an archeological museum dealing with the ancient city of Numancia, which was razed to the ground by the Romans.
