Sitges, on the Costa del Garraf, is in the Catalan province of Barcelona, Spain.

This part of the Mediterranean coast is very picturesque, and there are many small coves as well as 17 beaches with fine sand. The area is also good for walks, trekking, climbing, caving and all kinds of water sports.

The place to discover some beautiful plants and animals is the Garraf National Park, which has rocky terrain and many underground caves formed by water erosion. The highest summit here is La Morella, at 594 metres. Visit the Astronomical Observatory and the School of Nature. Sitges is a modern town, although it has some wonderful architectural monuments, with a medieval old town that lets you see its history and culture.

One place to visit is the Cau-Ferrat Museum (once the house of the painter and writer Santiago Rusiñol).

Don't miss, too, the Maricel de Mar and Can Llopis, with its impressive collection of old dolls.

The hotels here are top quality, as are the restaurants, which have a wide variety of Mediterranean dishes on offer. Try a couple of the local wines: Penedes and Malvasia.
