Segovia is a town in the south of the Spanish region of Castile and Leon. It is situated on the confluence of the Eresma and Clamores Rivers, near the Guadarrama Mountains.
It is known for its Roman aqueduct, which is UNESCO World Heritage. This ancient construction is the best preserved Roman monument on the Iberian Peninsula and it is one of the most important for the Spanish people.
It carries water from La Acebeda in the mountains, 17 km from the town, taking the water from the natural reservoir of Fuenfría. The stretch of the aqueduct that passes through the town has striking arches and granite pillars. At its highest it is 28 meters. It is a truly impressive monument that has an air of mystery about it. Another of the points of interest in this lovely city is the Citadel, a fortification and palace built between the 12th and 16th centuries in an impressive hilltop position; today it is an outstanding museum.
