The city of Palencia is in the Autonomous Community of Leon, in central Spain. It is the capital of the province of the same name and is on the Banks of the Carrión river.
Among the interesting places we would recommend visiting is the Jardinillos Park, which has a lovely waterfall, a pigeon house and a skating rink. Close to the park is the 18th century Baroque Palace, the 17th century Plaza Mayor, the Convent of San Francisco (built in the 18th century), the Parque del Salón park, which has some lovely paths, an auditorium, sculptures and some lovely fountains. Opposite this park is the lovely Church of San Juan Bautista.
We also recommend visiting the Provincial Archeological Museum, the Cathedral Museum and the symbolic Cristo del Otero, a wonderful work by the sculptor Victorio Macho. The sculpture is 30 metres high and provides great views of the city. You should also take the time to go for a walk on El Viejo Mountain, which has a wide range of recreational attractions, key among these being a deer reservation.
