Lugo is the capital city of the province of the same name in the Spanish Autonomous Community of Galicia.
Among the city’s main attractions are the Roman Walls, which were erected in the third century AD and are generally considered to be the most important landmark in the province, having been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000.
You should also make time to visit the Casa de los Mosaicos (House of Mosaics), near Plaza Mayor, which displays the remains of a third century domus. The San Roque Archeological Centre displays a necropolis that was in use between the 1st and 5th centuries AD. Other interesting places to visit are the Provincial Museum (13th century), the Porta Miña Exhibition Hall, and the Dioces Museum, which has many important religious works of art, including the 5th century Lábaro de Quiroga.
Other places worth visiting are the Town Hall, built in 1738, the Church of San Pedro (13th century) and the Convent Church of Santo Domingo (13th century).
