Lérida is in the Autonomous Community of Catalonia, in Spain. It is the capital of the province of the same name. This lovely city is considered to be the Gateway to the Pyrenees, a position that has many advantages.
The old quarter of Lérida is home to many interesting landmarks and a good selection of shops and boutiques that make for an excellent day’s shopping. It is in this old centre that the Se Villa Cathedral is located. The site the cathedral is on used to be a fortress and which boasts a very interesting blend of architectural styles, particularly Gothic and Romanesque. It is side by side with the Palau de la Suda palace on the hill that dominates the town.
Another interesting cathedral is the baroque Seu Nova. Those who like to unlock the mysteries of the past will be interested by a visit to the Institut d’Estudis Llerdencs, an excellent historical museum built in the Gothic style.
Another way to travel back in time is to visit the historical site of La Paeria, which has artifacts and artworks from the Roman era, the Moorish occupation and the medieval era.
