La Palma is a Spanish island which belongs to the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, in the Canary archipelago.
This volcanic island has a unique natural heritage of contrasts, so important that in 2002 UNESCO declared it a Biosphere Reserve. La Palma houses a series of nature reserves being, of the Canary Islands, one of the most wooded.
In the centre of the island you will find the Caldera de Taburiente National Park, a geological formation made of a depression with a rocky rim called the Roque de los Muchachos. This, one of the Canary Islands' highest points, is home to the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory. Towards the south there is a series of volcanoes located in the Cumbre Vieja National Park.
La Palma is different from its neighbours because of its water resources, with many springs and rivers crossing the island.
