The Costa Tropical, or Costa Granadina, is on Spain’s south coast, bathed by the Mediterranean Sea. It is part of the province of Granada (Andalucía), and its most popular resorts are Almuñecar, Motril and Salobreña. If you are looking for history, Almuñecar, a city founded by the ancient Phoenicians, has a rich historical heritage: two Phoenician necropolis’s, the ruins of a Roman aqueduct, an Arabian castle and many other interesting sites.

You will be pleasantly surprised by the pretty little white houses of Salobreña, square and huddling around the hill of the old Arabian castle, as well as by the panoramic views from the top of this hill, which encompasses the Sierra Nevada, the Mediterranean and the cultivated lowlands, a perfect picture postcard view.

In the town of Motril you should visit its lovely religious buildings, its Town Hall, the Calderón de la Barca Theatre – which puts on regular cultural events – and the town’s fine houses. There is a very popular walk called Las Explanadas next to the Virgen de la Cabeza sanctuary, where you can find some good cultural activities and some good pubs.
