Bilbao is the capital of the province of Vizcaya, in northern Spain. Bilbao is in the region known as the Basque Country, which is also an Autonomous Community.
It is a lovely city on the banks of the Nervión river that has a vibrant cultural scene, with some important museums and art galleries. One of the city’s most important and well known museums is the Guggenheim, a modern art museum with a spectacular design. The building is a work of art in itself, with its structure of soft folding shapes in shiny titanium. Bilbao’s Museum of Fine Arts is one of the best in Spain and houses an extensive collection of paintings, sculptures, sketches, engravings and decorative objects.
The city’s old quarter, the Casco Antiguo, is very pretty. Also known as the Seven Streets, due to the 7 main medieval thoroughfares that crossed it and were, in turn, crossed by countless alleys and streets. En pleno centro e Bilbao, en la entrada del Casco Viejo y a escasos metros tanto del autobús, tranvia y metro. Situación excelente.
