Alava is a Spanish province and historical territory of the Basque Autonomous Region.
Here you can visit the medieval city of Vitoria with the churches of San Miguel, San Vicente and San Pedro -with its impressive Gothic doorway-, as well as the important Cathedral of Santa Maria, with its four magnificent towers.
Visit the Casa del Cordón, El Portalón and the Los Anda Tower; go to the El Machete and La Burullería squares. You can also see the lovely Renaissance palaces of Montehermoso, Villa Suso, Bendaña and Escoriaza-Esquivel.
On the tourist train, the “Gasteiztxo”, you can take a guided tour of the city and save your energy.
Among the many sports and activities that you can try in Alava are golf, horse riding, water sports, paragliding, hang gliding and balloon trips with some incredible views.
You can taste wines of international renown in the Rioja Alavesa, and the Wine Route has some surprising activities and offers the opportunity to try some of the fine local cuisine.
The nightlife in Vitoria is very lively, and there are clubs, pubs and bars both in the old town and in new areas like Lakua or Judimendi.
