Hotels in Barcelona

Barcelona is the capital of the Autonomous Community of Catalonia and of the province of Barcelona, in Spain. The city lies on Spain’s Mediterranean coast, barely one hundred kilometers from the Pyrenees and from the French border. This wonderful city boasts a perfect blend of architectural styles, with the modern, the Gothic, the medieval and the Roman blending perfectly to make an invigorating mix. There is also a series of buildings by Gaudí that are on UNESCO’s list of World Heritage Sites, among which are Casa Milà (La Pedrera), Palau Güell and Parc Güell.

We recommend visiting Barcelona Cathedral (the Cathedral of the Holy Cross and of Saint Eulalia of Barcelona, to give it its full name), which was built in Gothic style, the Magic Fountain of Montjuic (1929), which puts on a lovely light, music and water show, and the former home of the poet Joan Maragall, which is now a museum.

You will find plenty of parks and gardens in which to relax and soak up the atmosphere of this grand city.

Discover the magic of a truly captivating city, visit Barcelona!

Our travellers’ opinions on Barcelona

  • Barcelona City

      by   Rosana

Barcelona is big city, steeped in history with fabulous monuments and architecture by Gaudi (Sagrada Familia, La Pradera, Casa Batló, Parc Güell). Other advice is to cross the ramblas taking in the fine views of the beautiful buildings. Don't forget to visit "La Barceloneta" and the harbour. Barcelona is a largely sunny city with great gastronom

  • Tongue Tied in Barcelona

      by   Smithster

OK, so Barcelona may be one of Spain’s most visited cities. But how Spanish is this Catalonian capital? For those possessing a smattering of Spanish will be sorely disappointed to discover that the official language here is Catalan, kind of a mix of Spanish and French. OK, you can get by with your Spanish guidebook and contrary to what the locals make you believe, most do speak conventional Spanish. But Barcelona is the centre of the Cataluyna region and has the same identity crisis as Scotland and Wales in the UK. They are part of something bigger, but countries in their own right. To get more out of your stay pick up a Catalan phrasebook and make the effort. The locals will appreciate it
