Alicante is a Spanish city, capital of the province of the same name in the Region of Valencia. It is on the Mediterranean coast and it is surrounded by some lovely scenery with hills, plains and attractive beaches.
If you want to see the best of the city, go the old town, which is around the Cathedral of San Nicolas. During the evenings, this is an enchanting area, since artists, musicians and craftspeople come here to perform and sell their wares. There are also many different bars and restaurants offering some excellent cuisine and some put on live music.
Another outstanding feature of the city is its excellent, clean beaches, each one with its own attractions. The Saladar Beach offers one of the best views of the city and the Postiguet Beach has a lovely palm-lined walkway. The Almadraba and San Juan beaches are also well worth visiting.
Alicante has everything: cultural activities, museums, beaches and all the charm of a surprising city.

Don't Miss Alicante
by AlexThe coastal Costa Blanca beaches surrounding Alicante may be more popular with sunseekers but there’s still plenty to see around the city. You only need a day or so to take a good look around. Highlights include the Santa Barbara Castle. Climb to the top to enjoy amazing views across the region. And if you’re looking to sample some of the local nightlife, then head to the Barrio Santa Cruz, or the old town in the city – it’s a totally different experience from the resort bars found along the coast

Getting Tongue Tied in Alicante
by SmithsterAnyone visiting Alicante with a smattering of Spanish will wonder if they hadn’t paid attention during their language class. Because here, regular Castilian Spanish, isn’t always the first language you’ll hear. In fact you’ll see road signs and hear locals speaking a version of Spanish which for me sounded like I’d arrived in a land far removed from “Spain”. You see, the official language here is Valencian, a derivative of Catalan, which is spoken in Cataluyna, around Barcelona and the Balearic Islands. However, don’t worry too much about having to do a crash course in Valencian before your trip as most people, except the die-hard do speak conventional Spanish. And if English is your only language, then bring a phrasebook
