A Coruña is located in Galicia, Spain, in the far northwest of the Iberian Peninsula in the coastal area known as the Rías Altas. This important tourist destination can be divided into two zones, the port area and the coastal area, which is home to the two main beaches, the Orzán and the Riazor.

A Coruña is a popular destination for cruise ships, partly because of the Riazor seafront area, which runs the length of the city. Here you can see a number of museums, such as the Casa de los Peces (the House of the Fish) and the Casa del Hombre, a museum dedicated to the human race. One more site is the Castle of San Antón, an old fortress located on one of the islands in the bay; it dates from the 16th century and it once protected the city against attack from the sea. Nowadays it houses a museum of archaeology and history.

A Coruña has the privilege of being home to the oldest Roman lighthouse in existence, and the only one that still functions: the Tower of Hercules.
