Ljubljana is the capital of the Republic of Slovenia. The city nestles between the Alps and the Mediterranean Sea, on the banks of the Ljubljanica and Sava rivers, in the region of Osrednjeslovenska.
The city is home to a wide variety of monuments and landmark buildings, among which are five old bridges: the Bridge of the Shoemakers, the Bridge of the Dragons, and the Three Bridges, which are close to Presernov Trg Square in the city’s old quarter. The old quarter is also remarkable for the Franciscan Church of the Annunciation and a statue of the celebrated poet France Preseren.
We highly recommend visiting Liubliana Castle, which has an audiovisual display on the city’s history and provides excellent views from its vantage point. Another enjoyable way to pass the time here is to go for a walk around the old quarter’s squares and streets, which are flanked by Baroque and Medieval buildings.
