The region known as Norte do Portugal takes in all of the districts of Viana do Castelo, Braga, Oporto, Vila Real and Braganza, as well as parts of the districts of Aveiro, Viseu and Guarda.

The region is home to a really wonderful mix of landscapes, ranging from towering mountains and green prairies to tranquil rivers, heavenly beaches and myriad cultural landmarks. The city of Viana do Castelo is at the mouth of the Limia river. Recommended sights to visit there are the Old Quarter, where you will be able to view the Plaza do Republica and the Town Hall , not to mention its excellent beaches. Oporto has some excellent mountain landscapes around it. The city’s Institute of Porto Wine is an interesting centre dedicated to this famous wine.

Braga, on the other hand, is famous for its Tibaes Monastery and the Sanctuary of Bom Jesús. Braganza, meanwhile, is remarkable for the defensive wall that surrounds the fortress, and in Vila Real we recommend visiting the Gothic cathedral (15th century).
