Information about Utrecht
Utrecht belongs to the Kingdom of the Netherlands and, although it is one of the smallest provinces, its capital, the city of Utrecht, is one of the most important in the country. It is a peaceful, cheerful city, with picturesque canals, many flowers, and a great deal of history on show. In Utrecht's impressive old town, it is possible to see ancient houses, canals, medieval buildings, churches, museums and art galleries and, if it is time to eat, you can choose from the many pleasant restaurants and bars here.
All the most important museums are within a 15-minute walk of each other, such as the National Clock Museum, the Railway Museum, the Hortus Botanicus, the Catharijneconvent Museum, the Centraal Museum, the Sonnenborgh Observatory and the Aboriginal Art Museum.
Another important monument in the city is the Cathedral, or Dom. Its 120-metre-high tower provides great views, while inside you can see its 14th-century cloister, the Kloostergang. The house of Rietveld Schröder, with its 20th-century architecture, has been declared UNESCO World Heritage and its forms part of the Centraal Museum. This attractive city offers history, culture and relaxation.
