Yangon and the South of Myanmar are very attractive destinations on the Andaman Sea. Yangon is the largest city and former capital of this Southeast Asian country.
The British presence in Yangon can be seen in the architecture of its buildings and wide avenues. The nightlife here is lively and you can also enjoy an excellent range of hotels and restaurants. Visit the many pagodas, surrounded by lush tropical vegetation; the National Museum of Myanmar, with historic artefacts and memorabilia; and go to nearby cities such as Syriam or Bago, with its colourful and traditional market.

A visit to the nearby city of Bago, with the Shwemawdaw Paya pagoda, often referred to as the Golden God Temple, and to the huge sitting Buddha figures of Kyaikpun is a must.
The city of Mawlamyine is the capital in Mon State. Here you can visit a great many pagodas and the Museum of Culture. Not far away, the town of Mudon is also an interesting place to visit. Pathein, lying by the Ayeyarwady River delta, is an important port city that can be reached by ferry, in an attractive trip along the Twante canal and the delta's channels. The main sight in Pathein is Shwemokhtaw Paya, a Buddhist temple.
