Cuernavaca is the capital of the Aztec state of Morelos, 89 kilometres south of Mexico City. This is an ideal place for sports lovers and those who are passionate about history. The climate in this natural wonder has been described as “eternal spring”.
In the Lagunas de Zempoala and El Tepozteco national parks you can practise parachuting, mountain biking and glider flying. Of course if you prefer to just relax and take in the scenery, that is also very enjoyable.
You can also do some rafting or diving on the Amacuzac River or go snorkelling in Las Estacas Park. Don’t forget to explore the Temple of San Juan Baustista, which is submerged in Lake Tequesquitengo.
Visitors should also take the time to see the archaeological treasures of Xochicalco, (World Heritage Site) and Teopanzolco. Also interesting are the historical buildings of Cuernavaca: the Cathedral and Convent of the Ascension, the Cortés Palace and the Borda Gardens. You can also visit some interesting museums and see some lovely handcrafts at the markets on Avenida Hidalgo y Boulevard Juárez.
Plazuela del Zacate is the place to go to find lots of bars and a good nightlife, including some of the best night clubs in Cuernavaca.
