Campeche is a Mexican state in the Yucatan Peninsula.
Its old centre is a World Heritage Site. We recommend visiting its old forts, which are now museums, its cathedral, the Temples of Guadalupe and San Román, and the old Haciendas of Campeche. At night, the Fort of San José el Alto puts on a spectacular light and music show. You should also go and see the Fort of San Miguel. The centre’s cobbled streets are lined with restaurants, cafes, shops and lots to see and do. Go for a stroll or a cycle around the region’s lovely parks and gardens. Visit the nature reserves on the Celestún River and see the pink flamingos. You could also head for Calakmul to marvel at its exotic flora and fauna, as well as its Mayan sites.
We recommend visiting the Petenes area, the wildlife sanctuary of Hampolol, and Laguna de Términos. Among the heavenly beaches of Campeche, with their fine white sand and clear waters, are: Playa Bonita, Punta Seybaplaya, Punta Xen, and Sabancuy.
The centre of Campeche has a great nightlife, with a Bohemian atmosphere and good pubs and clubs. Your holiday in Campeche will be perfect.
