Venice is a city in the north of Italy.
It is sometimes known as the "City of Water", due to the many canals that make it up, which are due to the fact that the city is actually more than a hundred islands, connected by around four hundred bridges. These canals and bridges give the city its own unique charm. The city's many important churches include the Basilicas of St Mark, Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari, Santa Maria della Salute, and many more. Venice is home to the famous St Mark's Square, which is a very interesting spot, and indeed Napoleon Bonaparte said that it was the most beautiful square in the whole of Europe. It is surrounded by important buildings, including the Ducal Palace, in the Gothic style.
The palace was the seat of government, as well the courts and prisons, of Venice. The city's most important festival is Carnival, which here has the curious feature of involving the wearing of masks by participants. If you visit Venice, don't miss a trip on one of the traditional Venetian gondolas. Visit this marvellous city and discover the romantic Venice!

Harry's Bar
by AlexOne of the coolest things to do in Venice is to visit Harry’s Bar. Movie stars have been known to pull up a seat here. Besides this Venetian bar invented the infamous Bellini cocktail (blend of prosecco and peach juice) and if you’re visiting from outside of Italy, then it’s too far to visit without dropping in. The service is pretty fast, but considering you’re paying £8.50 for a Bellini (ouch!) it’s the least you can hope for. However, it’s worth a visit, not just to experience the sophisticated air of nostalgia but because you’ll never know who you’ll see here

Getting around Venice
by AlexThe most romantic mode of transport in Venice is of course the gondola. But as you can imagine, you’ll be paying through the nose to hire the services of a suave stripy vested gondolier to navigate the canals. A budget busting way of getting around is by water bus (vaporetto). Buy a travelcard for £13.50 for 24 hours or £26 for 72 hours if you plan on sticking around for a few days. If you want to make one great trip on your card, then head to Burano, Murano and Torcello islands (Route LN from Fondamente Nove). Torcello is the furthest you can go and takes an hour
