Rome is the capital of Italy. It is one of the world’s most visited cities, due in great part to its historical heritage. The River Tiber flows through the city. In the western part of the city is the Vatican, the seat of the Catholic Church and an independent state. It is in the Vatican that you will find St. Peter’s Square, which contains the Palace, the Basilica, the Sistine Chapel, the Museum and the Gardens. The view from the dome of St. Peters is truly astonishing.
The must-see sights of Ancient Rome are: the Roman Forum, the Coliseum, Constantine’s Arch, Castello Sant’Angelo, the catacombs, Via Appia, the Circus Maximus, which is at the foot of Monte Palatino and the Pantheon at Piazza della Rotonda. Close to Via del Corso is the Trevi Fountain; while at Piazza Venezia you can see the Altar to the Fatherland. If you go up Monte Capitolino you will find the interesting Piazza del Campidoglio, which has many beautiful palazzos and is the seat of the government. Piazza del Poppolo, has an obelisk and some impressive churches, Piazza Navona has some Baroque masterpieces and is surrounded by restaurants that are full of atmosphere at night, Piazza Spagna has the famous Spanish Steps and some fashionable boutiques selling designer labels. You should also take the time to go and see Campo di Fiori, Villa Borghese, Villa Farnesin and countless excellent museums. There is a treasure hiding around every corner in legendary Rome.
Any holiday there is an unforgettable experience.

Outside Rome
by AlexOK, so Rome may be Europe’s hottest city break destination, but don’t overlook the other sights outside of the centre of this Eternal City. Once the Colloseum, St Peters Square, the Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps have been ticked off the list of must-sees, then venture down to Termini Train Station, head out to the little hill towns. My favourites to the south include Castel Gandolfo which is the summer residence of the Pope. Frascati is a pretty town famous for its wine and perched on a hilltop, while venturing out to Tivoli offers the opportunity to visit the beautiful Villa d'Este garden, which are now a designated UNESCO heritage area

Rome Gastronomy
by AlexThe one thing with travelling to Rome is knowing that whatever tickles your taste buds, you’ll find a wealth of restaurants worth exploring in this culinary capital. Of course the pizzas and pastas are out of this world, as are the more traditional meat and fish dishes. But don’t be surprised to stumble upon slightly unusual restaurants from Ethiopia, India and Germay here too. For those travelling on a budget, check out the set menus featured in some restaurants where you can eat three course meals for as little as €10
