In northern Italy, south of Milan, is the town of Pavia, capital of the province of the same name.
The town still preserves a quiet lifestyle and a historical past that is linked to its ancient university, founded in 1361. Pavia is an ancient town with many monuments dating back to the Middle Ages. It is also one of the most important stages on the pilgrimage route to Rome, known as the "via Francigena".
Among the many attractions for visitors is the Certosa, or Carthusian monastery, founded in 1396 and considered to be one of the most important monuments of the Lombard Renaissance. Other buildings that bring the history of Pavia to life include the Church of San Michele, of Lombard origin, and the Church of San Pietro in Ciel d'Oro, in the Romanesque style. The impressive Castello Visconteo fortress is also a place that shouldn't be missed. All the charms of Pavia's culture and history make it a destination to discover!
