Genoa is the capital city of the province of the same name and of the region of Liguria, in northern Italy. The city’s port is the biggest and most important in the country and the second biggest in the Mediterranean, after Marseilles.
Among its main attractions is Piazza di Ferrari, which is in the heart of the city and has a lovely fountain in the middle of it. Another interesting place to visit is the house in which Christopher Columbus was born in 1461. We can heartily recommend a visit to the Cloister of Sant' Andrea, the Porta Soprano gate (built in 1155) and the Cathedral of San Lorenzo, which was built in the Gothic style in the 12th century.
