Ferrara is an Italian city situated on the River Po di Volano, and it is the main city of the province of Ferrara. Its historical centre dates back to the 14th century, and has been declared UNESCO World Heritage.

It has a great many historical monuments, including: the Este Castle, the Palazzo del Comune, the Palazzo della Ragione, the Palazzo dei Diamanti, the Palazzo Schifanoia and the Palazzo Paradiso; you can also visit many museums, like the Arte Antica, Arte Moderno and Natural History museums.

Its churches and monasteries have impressive medieval architecture, and the outstanding example is the Cathedral of Ferrara. The city walls, from the Middle Ages, are still standing and visitors can see the nine kilometres surrounding the old town.

Ferrara is also well-located, with interesting towns and cities nearby like Ravenna, Chioggia, Bolzano, Volano, Goro, Argenta and Mesola. Comacchio is interesting for its canals, its port and its excellent beaches on the Adriatic.
