Sligo is a county in northwest Ireland, full of history and splendid natural scenery. Its natural riches include the Atlantic coast, transparent lakes and a hilly landscape. The centre of the county town of Sligo is bustling, and it has a good nightlife, varied restaurants and some fine pubs and shops.
If you are interested in history, you can visit some of these: the country's largest Megalithic monument, the Neolithic cemetery of Carrowmore, the prehistoric settlement of Carrowkeel, Drumcliff Church, the Abbey, Culleenamore Middens, the Yeats Commemorative Building, the Black Monument, Nolan Castle, Rathdooney Beg, St. Attracta's Well, The Green Fort and many more. There are picturesque gardens at Lakeview, among hills and lakes, you can fish for trout in Lake Gill, or salmon in the Moy Estuary.
Take the Humber Tour, which is excellent for biking, or try out clay pigeon shooting or golf. The water sports here are excellent, as the beaches are peaceful and attractive, and there is also the possibility of sailing to one of the little islands off the coast here. The range of hotels is very good, so why not come and discover Sligo.
