Agra is an Indian city on the banks of the Yamura, one hundred and fifty miles south of New Delhi. It was the capital of Mogul India until the 17th century and still has spectacular buildings that date back to its imperial past.
The most iconic building is the Taj Mahal, which is a World Heritage Site and one of the seven wonders of the world. Its architecture is a mix of the Islamic, the Persian, the Indian and the Turkish. It has an amazing white dome and incredible gardens.
Marvel at its raised walkways, its flower beds, its canals and its fountains. The view by night is simply breathtaking.
The Red Fort, also known as Agra Fort, is India's main fortress and is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It lies 15 miles to the north of the Taj Mahal.
The Tomb of Itimad-Ud-Daulah is surrounded by lovely gardens and is known as "Little Taj", being considered to be a precursor to the more famous building. It a mausoleum made of marble. Its decorative ceiling was defiled in the occupation of Agra.
