This residential centre rises above a gentle slope that leans out towards the sea, between the headland of Punta Sardegna to the west and Capo d'Orso to the east. In the 18th Century, the coastline took on an important defensive role; Palau, like La Maddalena and Caprera, became one of the many sentinels deployed for the protection of the Strait of Bonifacio. Numerous fortifications were erected at strategic points, of which those of Altura and Capo d'Orso are among the most beautiful and imposing. The centre of Palau, where guests will find links to the public transport network, is just 400 m away and it is 600 m to the beach. It is also the port of departure for boat trips to the island of La Maddalena. Olbia Airport is 40 km away and it is 150 km to Alghero Airport.
