The worldfamous, car free resort of Zermatt, is located in the Mattertal at the foot of the Matterhorn and surrounded by 38 forthousend meter peaks in the heart of the Alps of the Valais in Switzerland. It is situated in a quiet location only 300 m from the famous Matterhornbahn Paradise cableway, which also takes to the Riffelberg in winter, to the Theodul Glacier for Summerski and to stunning Schwarzsee Paradise. The village centre where you find shopping facilities, sports equipment shops and equipment location (Ski, Bike, Climb etc.), as well as the local elecric bus station are at some 200 m. The train station, as well as all major attractions like Matterhorn Museum, Cog Railway to Gornergrat lookout point, underground funicular to Sunnegga with its marmot (woodchucks) observation post and crystal-clear Leisee lake and departure point for Rothorn paradise at around 900 m.

How to get there
On the motorway A9 from Lausanne/Grand-St-Bernard, Sion, take the exit Sierre-Est and continue on the main road direction Visp, then Täsch/Zermatt. Passing through the Lötschberg tunnel, load the car onto the train in between Kandersteg and Goppenstein. Continue towards Visp then Täsch/Zermatt. Zermatt is car-free. Private traffic is only permitted up to Täsch (5 km before Zermatt). Various car parks and parking spaces are available in Täsch, and then take a shuttle train until Zermatt (every 20 min). From there follow the brown hotel signs or take an electro-bus, an electro-taxi or a Horse-drawn carriage. In public transports: Join Brig or Visp in an IC-train then change to the narrow-gauge railway of the Matterhorn Gotthard Railway until Zermatt. Zermatt is also the beginning or the end of the world-famous Glacier Express (St. Moritz / Davos - Zermatt).
