Hotel description Inverlochy Castle

General

The accommodation was built in 1863 by the first Lord Abinger, near the site of the original, 13th-century fortress. The castle had been a private residence for over a hundred years until 1969, when it was converted from a family home into a country house hotel. Now over 100 years old, the castle has been modernised and upgraded but, as with the beauty of its setting, its imposing style and Victorian grandeur remain timeless. The Great Hall, which guests will see for themselves upon entering the hotel, has a beautifully frescoed ceiling, Venetian crystal chandeliers and a handsome staircase, reflecting the relaxed, tranquil atmosphere of a bygone age. The property comprises a total of 17 accommodation units. Facilities on offer include 24-hour reception and check out, a hotel safe, a currency exchange facility, a cloakroom, an on-site hairdresser, a games room, a bar and a restaurant. Conference facilities are available, as well as WLAN Internet access, room service, a bicycle hire service and parking for those arriving by car. For an additional fee guests can make use of the hotel's laundry service.

Room description

Room

Each of the 17 bedrooms comes with a private bathroom and features its own individual design and character, along with stunning views of the grounds and surrounding mountains. Room facilities include a 30-inch Phillips mirror television, a personal laptop computer with Internet access, a personal safe, a CD player, a radio and an iron and ironing board. DVD and video players are available upon request. An en-suite bathroom with shower and bathtub comes as a standard feature, as well as a hairdryer, a double or king-size bed, a direct dial telephone, a mini fridge, tea and coffee-making facilities, a washing machine, central heating and individually adjustable air conditioning.

Sport activities description

Guests are invited to use the on-site tennis courts, as well as the outdoor chess set and table tennis court. There is also a snooker table provided. Alternatively guests may wish to just take a stroll around the striking, walled garden. The hotel has a loch within the grounds, where guests are welcome to fish, using the hotel's rods and boat at no extra charge. Within the castle itself there is a beautiful library, located off the Great Hall, and the Billiard Room on the first floor has stunning views over Loch Na Marag. A range of beauty treatments and massages can be arranged, either in guests' rooms or in the Powder Room (charges apply). For those of a more adventurous nature will enjoy white water rafting, paint-balling, 4x4 off-road driving and quad biking. There are plenty of activities on offer, including climbing Ben Nevis with a mountain guide and tackling the various mountain biking trails around Aonach Mor and Fort William. There is a golf course just 2 minutes away by car, at Fort William.

Meal service description

Restaurant

Each of the three dining rooms at the hotel is decorated with elaborate pieces of period furniture presented as gifts to the castle by the King of Norway. The restaurant's lunch and dinner menus feature modern British cuisine, which has been internationally recognised by all major travel guides. The restaurant was awarded 3 red Rosettes by the AA, and 1 Michelin Star. Menus for larger parties can be tailored to suit personal requirements.
