The Sporades Islands are an archipelago of Greek islands in the Aegean Sea. They are opposite Turkey. They are blessed with warm clear waters, quiet beaches surrounded by lush countryside and good facilities for all types of sports. The islands are divided into two groups, the Northern Islands, which include Alonnisos, Guira, Pelion and Peristera, and the Southern Sporades, including Skiathos, Skopelos and Skyros.
Skiathos, which is covered in vineyards and olive trees, has the best range of hotels, restaurants, services and nightlife. The best beaches are in the south of the island. You should make a point of visiting the old medieval city and its 18th century monastery.
The best beaches on Skopelos are in the southeast section of the island. It is a wonderful place for hiking and discovering old monasteries, fortresses, churches and the excellent Museum of Popular Art.
On Alonissos, concern for the environment is perfectly in harmony with the island's tourism infrastructure. Its Sporades Marine Park is home to many marine species, among which you will see dolphins, seals, herons and many others, some on the coast in some in the rich vegetation of the interior.
On the uninhabited island of Giura you will be able to visit the fabled cave of the Cyclops, which is full of stalactites and other limestone formations. Visit the beautiful Sporades.
