The Saronic Islands are an archipelago of Greek islands south-west of Pireus. Their capital is the port of Egina, on the island of the same name. The other islands in the Saronic Gulf are: Hydra, Poros and Spetses.
Egina is opposite Athens. While there you will be able to visit the Temple of Aphaia, which is the best preserved temple in Greece, and the Temple of Saint Nectarius. Egina is also famous for its pistachio nuts and its ceramics.
Poros is the smallest of these islands. It is full of lemon plantations and pine forests. It also boasts the Temple of Poseidon in the centre of the island.
Hydra is one of the most picturesque islands in the Saronic archipelago. It is a cosmopolitan city with a shopping district, restaurants and taverns where you can sample exquisite Greek delicacies, stone houses and narrow pedestrian streets.
In Spetses you will find heavenly beaches like Aghia Paraskevi, which is surrounded by pine trees, and the ever popular Aghios Mammas and Aghia Marina. Make time to visit the Chuch of St. Nicholas, the neo-classical Town Hall, the Bouboulina Museum and the spectacular 18th century mansions of the island. You will also enjoy a quiet coffee in the charming Dapia Square.
Visit the lovely Saronic Islands, the ideal place to have a relaxing holiday.
