Ios is an island in the Cyclades group in the Aegean Sea, off Greece. It is a mountainous island with huge cliffs and is located between the islands of Naxos and Santorini. Ios is full of pretty little inlets with their beaches and crystal clear sea. The island is also blessed with some lovely gulfs that are home to stunning beaches, which attract scores of visitors. According to Greek tradition, Homer’s mother was from Ios and he himself was buried there. Its capital, Chora, is a pretty town of white houses, small alleys and some nice hermitages and windmills. We recommend visiting the ruins of Palaiokastro Castle, the alleged tomb of Homer, and the tower of Psaropirgos. The most popular beaches on the island are Agia Ceodoti, Psaci, Kálamos, Manganari and Milipotas.
